In an emergency

FPUA's contact page says outages and gas leaks go to (772) 466-7703, option 1, and that its web form is not for them. For active flooding or danger, the City of Port St. Lucie says to call 911. For flood damage inside a Port St. Lucie home without immediate danger, the city asks residents to report it through 1PSL at 772-871-1775 by pressing 3, which does not replace an insurance claim.

A strong gas smell is not a restoration call. Leave the house and call the gas provider or 911 from outside.

Which pipe is yours

Port St. Lucie's utility terms say the city's responsibility for gravity sewer ends at the customer's property line. For a pressure sewer unit it ends where the house lateral enters the unit. The terms also give the utility access to its lines and meters.

FPUA, St. Lucie County and Martin County publish their own rules. Look at your account paperwork or ask the utility which side of the meter or property line a break sits on before paying for repairs.

Boil-water notices

FPUA's guidance for a precautionary boil-water notice follows the EPA: use bottled water if available, or boil water for one minute, let it cool and store it in clean covered containers. After a flood, do not drink tap water until local officials say it is safe.

Unincorporated areas

White City, Lakewood Park and Jensen Beach are census-designated places, not cities. Local services come from the county. Which utility serves a particular address varies, and not every address has a sewer account, so the bill is the reliable guide.
